Our Mkate Baskets are carefully woven by hand by one of over 600 women artisans who earn fair and reliable incomes with WomenCraft in Tanzania. „Mkate“ means „bread“ in Swahili, the national language of Tanzania. As such, our Mkate Baskets are ideal for serving fresh warm bread but can also be used as a decorative way to store smaller household items. For this basket, white threads of upcycled “Gunia” grain sacks are intricately woven into the natural grasses. The modern and light design brightens your room and adds character to any home.
